Ms Babalwa Dano is a Lecturer in Social Work at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN).

A member of the Program Development Committee of the World Federation for Mental Health, she holds a Master of Social Work (UKZN), a Bachelor of Social Science in Social Work (University of Natal), a Diploma in Project Management (Damelin), Employee Wellness Certificate from the University of Pretoria.

With over 20 years of experience in Social Work in healthcare and academia, she has taught courses in Social Work, Child Protection in Emergencies (a UNICEF-UKZN Project), and the Social Auxiliary Work Program.

Babalwa has also been a guest lecturer in Social Work at the University of Jonkoping in Sweden and in the School of Social Work at the University of Denver in the USA. She is a Fulbright fellow with SUNY- Stony Brook in the USA.

She is a researcher team member of the Inter-University Research Consortium involving UKZN (SA), Denver University (USA), Lund University (Sweden), and Umea University (Sweden).
